Protecting the freedoms we’ve earned.
I grew up in the Philippines in a police state, where I saw firsthand what happens when the government fails to protect its people’s fundamental freedoms. Today, in CA-02, we are seeing those same freedoms under threat. Whether it’s the government stripping away reproductive rights or the systemic discrimination that keeps our neighbors in the shadows, we must fight for a democracy that protects everyone, especially the most vulnerable. My "People" platform is built on the belief that true freedom includes economic security, bodily autonomy, and the right to live without fear.
When I’m in Congress, I will:
Codify Reproductive Freedom: I will fight to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law and repeal the Hyde Amendment. Reproductive healthcare is a human right, and it should never be determined by your zip code or your income.
Pass the Equality Act: I will champion federal protections that prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in housing, employment, and healthcare. No one should be denied dignity because of who they are or who they love.
Close the Gender Wage Gap: We must pass federal pay equity laws and the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). It is long past time we recognize the economic value of caregiving and ensure women aren't penalized for balancing work and family.
Protect Survivors and Vulnerable Communities: I will work to fully fund the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and implement common-sense gun safety measures that keep firearms out of the hands of domestic abusers.
Support LGBTQIA+ Youth and Families: I will advocate for targeted resources to end LGBTQIA+ homelessness and ensure our schools are safe, inclusive environments where every student can thrive.
Guarantee Paid Leave and Childcare: We will treat childcare as a public good by expanding Head Start and guaranteeing paid family and medical leave, so that caregiving never leads to financial ruin.
Democracy only survives when we fight for it. I am ready to stand up for the rights of women, the LGBTQIA+ community, and every person in this district to ensure the promises of liberty and justice extend to all of us.
