Housing is a human right

California home prices have risen dramatically over the past five years—in some North State counties by nearly 90%. Rents have shot up too, and for many in CA-02, the dream of homeownership is slipping away.

Housing is a human right, not a vehicle for Wall Street profit. To ensure our families, seniors, and essential workers can stay in the communities they love, we must stop the financialization of our neighborhoods and treat housing as a public good.

When I’m in Congress, I will:

  • Kick Wall Street Out of Our Neighborhoods: I will support legislation like the “Stop Predatory Investing Act” to strip tax breaks from large institutional investors and ban private equity from buying up single-family homes.

  • Massively Expand Housing Supply: I will fight for federal funding to double housing construction, strengthen the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, and back the repeal of the Faircloth Amendment so we can finally expand public housing options.

  • Protect Renters from Gouging and Displacement: I will work for federal cost-control measures to rein in rent gouging and advocate for tenant protections that guarantee legal counsel during evictions to prevent the displacement of working-class families.

  • Modernize and Green Our Homes: I support a Green New Deal for Public Housing to repair existing units and make them carbon-neutral, which will create good-paying local jobs while lowering utility bills for residents.

  • Ensure Transparency and Fairness: I will support efforts to require landlords to disclose their identities rather than hiding behind LLCs, and I will fight to ban source-of-income discrimination so that no one is denied a home for using federal housing vouchers.

We must stabilize our neighborhoods and ensure that every person in our district has a safe, energy-efficient, and affordable place to call home.
