A safe and humane immigration system
Our immigrant neighbors are the heartbeat of our communities and our economy, yet they are being used as political targets. The current agenda of mass deportations, family separations, and unchecked militarization doesn't make us safer—it only tears our neighborhoods apart. I am fighting for an immigration system that centers families, dignity, and human rights, rather than fear-based politics.
When I’m in Congress, I will:
Abolish ICE: I will stand against masked and armed federal agents terrorizing our communities. ICE didn’t exist until 2003, and there’s no reason for it to exist now. We must get ICE off our streets.
Create a Clear Path to Citizenship: I will fight to simplify the naturalization process and create a permanent path to citizenship for undocumented neighbors and DACA recipients who call this country home.
Modernize and Humanize the System: We must end the backlog by funding more asylum officers and immigration judges, ensuring every person has the legal right to due process and representation.
End Cruel Detention Practices: I will work to phase out private immigration prisons and hold agencies like CBP accountable for rights violations and ending the criminalization of those seeking safety.
Protect the Vulnerable: We must restore humanitarian parole and protect asylum seekers—especially children, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and survivors of violence—treating them as human beings, not political pawns.
Address Root Causes: Migration is often the result of failed U.S. foreign policies. I will advocate for ending harmful sanctions in Latin America and investing in sustainable development abroad so people aren't forced to flee their homes.
Dismantle the Surveillance State: I will fight to repeal the Patriot Act and end invasive surveillance that targets immigrant communities. True security comes from modernizing our ports of entry, not building walls or militarizing our borders.
Real safety comes from community investment and smart diplomacy. Our immigration laws must finally reflect our values of empathy, compassion, and justice.
