Cathy Darling Allen, Retired Shasta County Clerk and Registrar of Voters, Joins Campaign As Fundraising Co-Chair
Campaign to provide new, constituent service‒oriented representation for the North State also launches online Listening Lunches to tap into local voices
Redding, CA (July 15, 2024) – With a platform dedicated to freedom, security and opportunity for residents in California’s Congressional District 1, Rose Penelope Yee is delighted to welcome Cathy Darling Allen, a Shasta County elections veteran, to her insurgent campaign.
Allen, who spent 20 years serving Shasta as county clerk and registrar of voters, is co-chair of the Rose for Congress campaign’s fundraising committee; the appointment was internally announced on July 11 and received widespread support by volunteers.
After overseeing some 40 elections, Allen left her role after the March primary due to health concerns. On July 9, she was one of just 22 people and organizations to earn the American Bar Association’s Unsung Heroes of Democracy Award, recognizing those “who significantly advanced the cause of protecting American democracy across the nation.”
Allen believes that Yee’s political platform is what North State communities need to thrive, and said she is proud to support the Rose for Congress campaign. She says that her stress level has come way down since leaving her former job, and she’s enjoying her role as a volunteer for the grassroots-driven campaign.
Rose for Congress: Fundraising Goals
According to Allen, the campaign aims to raise “at least” $500,000 from small and large donors and “no amount is too small a donation.” Already the campaign is filling its schedule with house parties and meet-and-greets throughout the region to heighten voter engagement.
Allen said it’s “vitally important to demonstrate the support of the community at large in the form of small donations” and added that she’s energized to speak about the “importance of election integrity in our democracy.”

About the Rose for Congress Campaign
Rose Penelope Yee is running for Congress to create more opportunity and ensure security for North State residents. In pursuit of this vision, she is fighting for five freedoms—to access healthcare, to learn, to achieve financial security, to live in a safe environment, and to demand a government that prioritizes the welfare of all Americans. As a small business owner, a leader in the socially responsible business movement, and a survivor of dictatorship, Rose has worked her whole life to advance these freedoms—while the North State’s current representative, Doug LaMalfa, has acted to take away. Rose knows how precious small “d” democratic values are, and she invites voters to contribute to her Care Agenda.
