Vote for the Planet
Hello and Happy Earth Day!
Have you heard of the saying, “What you do for the people, you do for the planet. And what you do for the planet, you do for the people.”
As this is an election year, I wanted to share District 1 Congressional Representative LaMalfa’s scorecard by the League of Conservation Voters: 3 out of 100. That is not a typo. Indeed both his current and lifetime scores are 3/100!
How many ways has LaMalfa voted against the planet and people? Here are a few of his votes in 2023:
H.R. 1023 - LaMalfa voted to roll back climate and environmental justice programs in the Inflation Reduction Act. He also voted to repeal the Methane Emissions Reductions Program.
H.R. 7023 - LaMalfa voted to roll back clean water safeguards and held back the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to stop polluters from dumping pollutants into our rivers and streams.
H.R. 987 - LaMalfa voted to halt progress on conservation and climate efforts by labeling such measures as anti-American.
H.R. 6009 - LaMalfa voted to curb the Department of the Interior’s ability to enact reforms on oil and gas leasing programs, and holding polluters responsible for cleaning up drilling sites.
H.R. 1121 - LaMalfa voted to prohibit the president’s ability to put a moratorium on fracking.
Essentially, all of LaMalfa’s votes put the extractive fossil fuel industry’s interests above those of the planet and people. As District 1 constituents, it is clear that he does not have our interests at heart. Don’t we deserve to have clean water protections? Don’t we deserve to get funding for clean energy projects that would provide living wage jobs and uplift our rural economies? Don’t we deserve to have a representative who puts our interests first rather than those of polluters?
It’s time for new representation in Congress. On Earth Day, let’s vow to use our vote for the planet. Let’s #KickLaMalfaOut!
Vote #RoseforCongress!
