Statement from CD-2 Candidate Rose Penelope Yee on ICE presence in U.S. cities
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 9, 2026
Statement from Congressional Candidate Rose Penelope Yee (CA-02) on the killing of Renee Good and continued presence of ICE in U.S. cities.
“The brutal killing of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother and legal observer, by an ICE agent in Minneapolis is a heartbreaking yet avoidable tragedy. The shooting was a reckless display of state-sanctioned violence by an agency that acts like an unrestrained paramilitary force.
Renee was exercising her right to observe federal actions. She should still be alive. Video evidence and eyewitness accounts appear to contradict the narrative put forth by the Trump Administration, showing that she was attempting to drive away when she was shot in the head repeatedly at point-blank range.
There must be accountability. Federal immigration agents are sowing chaos and distrust and should leave our cities immediately. There should be a transparent and independent investigation into the murder of Renee by an ICE officer. And it must be made clear to law enforcement that community members have the right to witness and record activities without the threat of arrest or being shot.
At the end of this month, Congress will vote on funding the Department of Homeland Security. They must not vote to send hundreds of billions of dollars to an agency that refuses to follow the law and be held accountable.
I stand in solidarity with Renee’s family and with communities across the country who are being terrorized by these aggressive, masked federal deployments.
We urge people to join peaceful protests and vigils being held across the country to demand justice for Renee.
If elected to represent California’s 2nd District in Congress, I will work to dismantle ICE and end the unchecked violence that has turned our cities into zones of fear. True public safety is built on accountability, civil rights, and justice, not militarized force.”
