Rose Penelope Yee’s People, Peace, and Planet Response to Trump’s 2026 State of the Union

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 25, 2026

Last night, the President delivered what may go down in history for its length — not its substance. He touted stock market gains and lower gas prices while millions of Americans struggle to make rent, feed their kids, and pay for medicine.

PEOPLE

We believe the state of our union’s health isn’t measured by the Dow reaching 50,000 USD- it is measured by how families are faring.

  • Working families are squeezed by high costs and stagnant wages,

  • Healthcare, housing, and childcare remain unaffordable,

  • Seniors and veterans are scared of benefits cuts.

While tonight’s speech painted a rosy picture of the economy, American households have ran up more debt than ever before.

PEACE

We reject the framing of “peace through strength.” Peace is built through diplomacy, de-escalation, and mutual respect.

  • We cannot simply talk about readiness for war with Iran. We must exhaust every diplomatic avenue first,

  • We cannot equate patriotism with more militarization,

  • We cannot keep funding war and genocide abroad, and militarism at home.

A truly strong nation means one that has the confidence to work toward peaceful solutions.

PLANET

Tonight’s address barely mentioned the climate crisis, signaling once again the denial of science and our now lived experience of climate disasters that have increased in magnitude. We need leadership that:

  • Invests in clean energy and resilient infrastructure,

  • Reduces emissions while creating union jobs,

  • Protects public lands, water, and future generations.

In Contrast

Where this speech offered rhetoric, our agenda offers tangible outcomes:

  • Lower healthcare costs, affordable housing, and real wage growth,

  • Peaceful global leadership,

  • Invests in clean energy and resilient climate solutions that work for all.

A thriving People · Peace · Planet doesn’t come from applause lines, it comes from justice, equity, and bold action.
