Rose Penelope Yee Casts Delegate Vote for Kamala Harris
North State Congressional candidate polls district on Democratic presidential nominee endorsement; casts vote under challenging circumstances
Redding, CA (Aug. 4) – Congressional candidate Rose Penelope Yee, one of four delegates elected to represent California District 1 voters at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago Aug. 19–22, cast her vote for Kamala Harris as the party’s nominee for president over the weekend.
Yee’s vote reflects both her own judgment and the preferences of District 1 voters she polled. Immediately upon learning that President Biden had ended his reelection campaign and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, Yee sent out a survey asking constituents whom they wanted her to vote for to replace Biden on the Democratic ticket.
While a few respondents said they had concerns about a Harris presidential candidacy, the large majority encouraged Yee to endorse Harris. Consequently, she publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for President and cast her delegate vote for Harris before the Aug. 5 deadline.
She did so under difficult circumstances. Yee was on an emergency trip to the Philippines to be with her ailing mother, who was undergoing major surgery. Her location in a distant province without reliable internet service made it difficult to communicate, but she ultimately managed to cast her ballot from the Manila airport on her way back to the North State.
